Meditating
At writing classes where students have meditated before writing, a sense of peace and space inhabits their work. TASK Spend between 5-30 minutes in whatever type of meditation you usually do. If you don't know how, simply relax your eyes until they're nearly closed, relax, slow your breath and focus all your energy on observing the act of breathing in and out. The idea is to still your mind from other thoughts. When you catch your mind inevitably trying to move away to other things, gently bring it back to observing your breath. Afterwards, move silently and seamlessly into writing for 10 minutes, beginning with the words "When s/he awoke...."
