Here are over 130 ten-minute writing exercises for you to dip into and enjoy. Approach these challenges with the minimal of mental preparation. Don't agonise over writing the "perfect" response; simply put pen to paper and start writing! Try carrying a notebook and paper with you, for the next time you find yourself with 10 minutes to fill waiting for the bus/train/doctor/etc.

Texture adventure
TASK Find yourself a range of textures, no less than five and no more than 10. Paper. Cotton. Wood. Leather. Silk. Whatever floats your goat, as my teenager would say. Fondle each one incorrigibly and at length, considering what kind of person each might represent. Think gender, sexual preference, what makes him/her angry/happy, what their voice sounds like and anything else that gives flavour and texture to them as characters. (Tomorrow, you're gonna make them talk to each other.)
